Christmas Party

Subscribe in a reader

Well, its that time of the year again...time to say goodbye to the New Testament (the students have finished every NT book except Revelation and Matthew) and time to have a Christmas party!  You're invited!...visit the website for details (esbsonline.org).

We've had a fantastic year so far, and 2011 is taking shape to be incredible as well.  Over the past several months we've spoken to over a dozen people who have expressed interest in next year's school.  We are receiving applications currently.  Please pray that God would put together just the right school for the 2011-12 school-year.

Hope to see you at the party...wear your best snowflake sweater!

Journaling through a Psalm

Subscribe in a reader

Today Katie introduced a way to engage with the Psalms that really blessed me.  I wanted to share it with you.  We took 45 minutes and journaled through Psalm 51 individually...here's how you can do it:

1)  find a quiet place...take a pen, journal, Bible
2)  read one stanza (usually several verses), think about the verses for a minute, internalizing them (this is Bible meditation)
3)  re-write the stanza in your own words....praying it back to God as you write it out...let the psalmist's prayer become your prayer, but in your own words
4)  continue to write out your prayers as anything else comes to mind...things beyond what the stanza may say
5)  move on to the next stanza...

This changed my heart today...pointed me towards God's heart...time well spent.

Goodbye Byron and Eileen

Subscribe in a reader
After 5 full and wonderful years the ESBS said goodbye today to two of its finest.  Eileen and Byron Hartzler, who have been with the school since it began in 2006, left today to begin their transition to Thailand.  In many ways we owe the success of the ESBS to Eileen and Byron, who have worked tirelessly to cary the vision for the program day in and day out.  They've done a fantastic job and we'll miss them tremendously.  We wish them all the best as they transition into a new season of life.

2)  use the new address directly (www.esbsonline.org)

Thanks you Byron Hartzler, Scott Woods and Bryan Norton for all your hard work to make this happen!

Over the next few weeks we'll continue to add content to the new site (photos, videos and audio lectures etc.)

meet brent

Meet Brent and Laura Brooks.  Brent's one of our 7 students this year.  He's also our first student ever to commute to the program, and not live here residentially.

Two years ago Brent audited a good chunk of the Old Testament here at the ESBS while continuing to manage his log home restoration business in the area (sawtoothlogrestoration.com).  He had such a positive experience that he decided to try and do the entire school this year on a full-time basis.

Brent and his wife Laura live about 15 minutes from the camp.  We met at the local church we both attend.  He's a marine corps vet, dog lover, volkswagen micro bus owner, mountain biker, and he was rooting hard for Ron Paul in the '08 election...what else can I say...Brent's an interesting guy and we're glad he's here.

Brent's interested in teaching the Bible long-term.  I'd love to see him help out here next year on some level.  He's also on the board of a grade school in Colombia (south america) and we're currently working on getting our ESBS resources translated into spanish so that he can teach Inductive Bible study there too.
